Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between open type and silent type generators?
An open type generator has no outer canopy — the engine, alternator, and fuel system are exposed. This makes it lower cost and easier to service, but produces significantly more noise (typically 80–95 dB). A silent type generator is enclosed in a steel soundproof canopy, reducing noise to approximately 68 dB at 7 metres, and is suitable for outdoor installation and noise-sensitive environments.
Can I install an open type generator outdoors?
Open type generators are designed for indoor installation in a generator room, plant room, or enclosed structure that provides weather protection. For permanent outdoor installation, we strongly recommend our Silent Type range, which includes an IP44-equivalent weatherproof canopy.
